Hawkesbury was the venue for the Group 3 Hawkesbury Gold Cup on Thursday with TBNSW members recording second and third placings in the event. This Manshood (Manshood(CAN)-Our Gilded Lily) continued his good form when he saluted from Huge Demand (Akaaber(USA)-Abbraak(USA)) bred by Emirates Park Pty Limited with Evander (Octagonal(NZ)-Shame) bred by Woodlands Stud in third place.

In Sydney

The Kensington track at Royal Randwick was the venue for mid-week racing in Sydney with seven events on the card. TBNSW members recorded 2 winners, 3 second placings and 3 third placings on the day.

 

TBNSW members opened their account with a third placing in Race 1 the Gay Vista Handicap (Division 1). Template (Thunder Gulch(USA)-Sillusion(NZ)) won from Senorita Peta(NZ)(Senor Pete(USA)-Showzam(NZ)) with Beautiful Dragon (Knowledge-Lansarah(NZ)) bred by Mr CHF Loh in third place.

 

A quinella for TBNSW members in Race 4 the Divide and Rule Plate. Ashworth (Royal Academy(USA)-Too Darn Hot(NZ)) bred by Mr A E Vrisakis finished too strongly for Pontifex (King of Kings(IRE)-Centollus) bred by Mr Gerry Harvey with For the Boys (Strategic-Brilliant) third.

 

A great result for TBNSW members in Race 5 the Gay Vista Handicap (Division 2) when they provided the trifecta. Ski Lodge (Grand Lodge(USA)-Yoghurt) bred by Tareena Bloodstock was successful from Royal Catch (King’s Theatre(IRE)-Chase the Chick) bred by Bhima Pty Limited with Contessa Star (Marwina-Star Black(NZ)) bred by Kentucky Thoroughbreds in third position.

 

A third placing for TBNSW members in Race 6 the IDG Communications Handicap. Peak Gem(NZ)(Danelove(NZ)-Mangaroa) won from Lanzo (Langfuhr(CAN)-Chez Melody(IRE)) with Landsdowne (Barathea(IRE)-Eichtercua(IRE)) bred by Bhima Pty Limited in third place.

 

TBNSW members finished the day with a second placing in Race 7 the Kennedy Handicap. Erin Bee (Anabaa(USA)-Crusading Lil) was successful from Radiance of Apollo (Waajib(IRE)-Fast Work(NZ)) bred by Macquarie Stud with Priscilla (Thunder Gulch(USA)-Futile) third.

The corresponding mid-week meeting in Melbourne was held at Sandown with eight events on the program. TBNSW members recorded a winner and a third placing on the day.

 

TBNSW members were in the winner’s circle in Race 4 the Springvale Super Vobis Handicap when Conspectus scored. Conspectus (Woodman(USA)-Planet Hollywood) bred by Mrs S E Suduk dead-heated with Anti Miyaki (Filante(NZ)-Does She Bite) with Harrow (Dehere(USA)-Antelliere) in third place.

 

A third placing for TBNSW members in Race 8 the Peshawar Handicap. Circumnavigating (Encosta de Lago-Dream’s Delight) was successful from Clemenger(NZ)(Volksraad(GB)-Colombe D’Or(NZ)) with No Smog (Dr Grace(NZ)-Clear Skies) bred by Woodlands Stud in third position.

TBNSW members were in the winner’s circle in Race 3 the Bowlers’ Club of NSW – Randwick Labor Club Handicap when Native Jester scored. Native Jester (Rory’s Jester-Native Thriller) bred by Macquarie Stud was too strong for Pixies (Magic Ring(IRE)-Chloe’s Image(NZ)) with La Feral (Johann Quatz(FR)-Shalomin) in third place.

 

A great result for TBNSW members in Race 4 the NSW Leagues Club – Maroubra RSL Handicap providing the trifecta in the event. Marzurro (Marscay-Azzuro) bred by Bhima Pty Limited was successful from Spinning Con (Spinning World(USA-Sounds Positive) bred by Mr B J and Mrs P J MacDonald with Doberman (Grand Lodge(USA)-Alarm) bred by Woodlands Stud in third position.

 

A third placing for TBNSW members in Race 6 the ClubsNSW – Keno Cup. Stark Touch(NZ)(Stark South(USA)-Touche Amora(NZ)) won from Claremont (Covetous-Venteax) with Hasty Belle (Bite the Bullet(USA)-Rivella (USA)) bred by Mr T P Burke in third place.

Alive ‘N’ Well (Woodman(USA)-Young and Free) won from Casino Knight (Ascot Knight(CAN)-Kimutaku) bred by Mr L J Fleming with Sneeze (Zeditave-Pepperpot) bred by Woodlands Stud in third position.

 

Second and third placings again for TBNSW members in Race 4 the Lafarge Gib Toughline Impact Board Handicap. Gattling Rosie (Bite the Bullet(USA)-Pamesta) was successful from New York Style (Desert Style(IRE)-Harlem(NZ)) bred by Mr H J Mitchell and Mr A D Mitchell with Magic Answer (Magic Ring(IRE)-Final Answer) bred by Mr J G Hinde in third place.

 

TBNSW members were in the winner’s circle as well as providing the third placing in Race 5 the Lafarge Perforated Acoustic Mastaboard Handicap. Squish (Luskin Star-Ooze) bred by J W Kelly Suffolk Vale & Co was too strong for Template (Thunder Gulch(USA)-Sillusion(NZ)) with Action Annie (Anabaa(USA)-Overdue Reaction(IRE)) bred by Widden Stud in third place.

TBNSW members were off to a flying start in Race 1 the Jason McCartney Mile when Mythological scored. Mythological (Bite the Bullet(USA)-Mythos) bred by Woodlands Stud was too strong for Ribe (Danehill(USA)-Kapeskin(NZ)) with Vicksburg (Thunder Gulch(USA)-Free Success(NZ)) third.

 

A second placing for TBNSW members in Race 7 the Express Post Platinum Sprint. La Tonkiki (Dolphin Street(FR)-La Tonkinoise) won from Curragh Star (Raami(GB)-Curragh Miss) bred by Mr and Mrs N R Johnson with Rubicor (Rubiton-Corridor Voices) in third position.

 

Black Type Racing

On Wednesday 20 November 2002, the Ballarat Cup, a listed race over 2200 metres was run. Varsilayos (Regal Classic(CAN)-Pentaya) was successful from As You Would(NZ)(Kaapstad(NZ)-Timeless Moment(IRE)) with Sale of Century(NZ)(Prized(USA)-Trio(NZ)) in third place.

In Melbourne

Day 2 of the Bendigo Cup Carnival in Melbourne with nine events on the program. The highlight for the day and the carnival was the Bendigo Cup a listed race run over 2400 metres. TBNSW members provided 2 second placings and a third placing on the day.

 

TBNSW members opened their account with a second placing in Race 2 the AAPT Hurdle. King Zoffany (Zoffany(USA)-Grande Chasseuse(NZ)) won from Timbergrove(USA)(Woodman(USA)-Beribboned (USA)) bred by Gooree Pastoral Company with Keep Trucking (NZ)(Omnicorp(NZ)-Kingston Belle(NZ)) third.

 

The highlight of the day was Race 6 the Bendigo Cup a listed race run over 2400 metres and TBNSW members provided the third placing in the event. Forlorna(IRE)(Nashwan(USA)-Royal Lorna) was successful from Fearless Sophie (King of Brooklyn-High Rent) with Time Off (Night Shift(USA)-Sonolia(NZ)) bred by Woodlands Stud in third position.

 

A second placing for TBNSW members in Race 8 the Tooheys New Open Handicap. House Guest (Snippets-Gatherneaux) scored from Littlewood Lane (Dehere(USA)-Interlace) bred by Vinery Australia with Celtic Trial (Celtic Swing(GB)-Te Akau(NZ)) in third place.

In Melbourne

Day 3 of the Melbourne Cup Carnival at Flemington with black type racing on the card with the highlights of the meeting being the Group 1 Crown Oaks and the Group 2 Emirates Classic. TBNSW members provided 2 winners (the two feature races the Group 1 Crown Oaks and the Group 2 Emirates Classic), 3 second placings and 2 third placings on the day.

 

The opening event on the program was the Adams Platform Stakes a listed race for 2YO fillies run over 1000 metres. Rinky Dink (Distorted Humor(USA)-Peebinga Princess) was too good for Arena Star (Spartacus-Centrullah) with Lanquin (Last Tycoon(IRE)-Taittinger(NZ)) third.

 

Race 2 on the program was the Imperial Leather Stakes a listed race for 3YOs run over 1800 metres. Perlin(NZ)(Carnegie(IRE)-My Midnight Madam(NZ)) scored most impressively from Glefti (Dehere(USA)-Desert Jewel) with Mya (Desert King(IRE)-Katie O’Neill(NZ)) in third place.

 

TBNSW members opened their account with second and third placings in Race 3 The Moet & Chandon. Special Grange (Dehere(USA)-So Special(NZ)) was successful from Lady Cay (Marscay-Borely(GB)) bred by Widden Stud with Provokes (Octagonal(NZ)-Excited Angel) bred by Woodlands Stud in third position.

 

A second placing for TBNSW members in Race 4 on the program the Cadbury Roses Stakes a listed race for 3YO fillies run over 1200 metres. Red Labelle (Blevic-Top Polish) won from Sensational Spot (Swamp King(USA)-Spon On Time) bred by Mr E D Codd with Gazania (Encosta de Lago-Viminaria) third.

 

The highlight of the meeting was Race 6 the Group 1 Crown Oaks and what a great result for TBNSW members who provided the quinella in the event. Bulla Borghese (Belong To Me(USA)-Fionnay) bred by Mrs S Bissett and Mr I C Woodford-Smith was successful from Lashed (Encosta de Lago-Traffic Watch) bred by Mrs C M Upjohn with Antique (Metal Storm(FR)-Bonny Guest) in third place.

 

TBNSW members were in the winner’s circle in Race 7 the Group 2 Emirates Classic when Choisir saluted. Choisir (Danehill Dancer(IRE)-Great Selection) bred by Mr R M Daisley was too strong for Falvelon (Alannon-Devil’s Zephyr) with Belle Du Jour (Dehere(USA)-Delightful Belle(NZ)) in third position.

 

A third placing for TBNSW members in Race 8 the Crown Cup. Worth the Wait(NZ)(Justice Prevails-Our Lolita(NZ)) won from Al Borak(NZ)(Exploding Prospect(USA)-Kahntinata) with Energy Abounds (El Moxie(USA)-La Corsaire) bred by Mr S Van Eyk, Mr S L Ware and Mr A Kalogerou in third place.

Day 2 of the Melbourne Cup Carnival at Flemington with black type racing on the card saw the highlight of the carnival, the running of the Group 1 Melbourne Cup. TBNSW members provided 1 winner (a listed race), 1 second placing (in the Melbourne Cup) and 3 third placings on the day.

 

TBNSW members opened their account with a third placing in Race 1 the Today Tonight Sprint. Cross Current (Keltrice-River Express) won from Pietiner (Encosta de Lago-Old Soft Shoe) with Wardroom (Lake Coniston(IRE)-Career Woman) bred by Woodlands Stud in third position.

 

A third placing for TBNSW members in Race 5 the Schweppes 1000. Dantana (Danzero-Big Sky Montana) was successful from Applicant (Anabaa(USA)-Outremer(IRE)) with You’re the Top (Belong to Me(USA)-Joie de Vivre) bred by Mr Gerry Harvey in third place.

 

Race 6 on the program was the Seppelt Great Western a listed race for three-year-old fillies run over 1400 metres. Tarcoola Diamond (Last Tycoon(IRE)-Potent) scored from It’s You (Celtic Swing(GB)-Yarra Dreaming(NZ)) with Joy of Flight (Flying Spur-Merry Life) third.

 

The one we had all been waiting for, Race 7 the Group 1 Melbourne Cup run over the gruelling 3200 metres and TBNSW members provided the second placing. The Irish visitor Media Puzzle(USA)(Theatrical(IRE)-Market Slide) proved too strong for the local Mr Prudent (Phizam(NZ)-I’m in Business) bred by Dr J Woolridge with the English visitor Beekeeper (Rainbow Quest(USA)-Chief Bee(GB)) in third place.

 

TBNSW members were in the winner’s circle as well as providing the third placegetter in Race 8 the Hong Kong Jockey Club Plate a listed race run over 1800 metres. Palidamah (Mukaddamah(USA)-Palixandre) bred by Miss A O Raymond was too strong for Yoruba (Civic Hope-Sweet Advice) with Evander (Octagonal(NZ)-Shame) bred by Woodlands Stud in third position.

Royal Randwick was the venue for the corresponding mid-week racing in Sydney with nine events on the card. It was a good day for TBNSW members who recorded 3 winners, 3 second placings and 1 third placing.

A second placing for TBNSW members in Race 7 the Victorinox Handicap. Pugad Lawin (Coronation Day-Bas Bleu(NZ)) won from Sissano (Last Tycoon(IRE)-Tristera) bred by Mr Gerry Harvey with Dark Brandy (Danger-On the Rise) third.

Ascot hosted two black type races in Perth on Tuesday with the running of the Fairetha Stakes and the Burgess Queen Stakes both listed races.

 

The Fairetha Stakes a listed race run over 1400 metres was won by the NSW bred Zoometric (Unbridled’s Song(USA)-What a Joy) from Hot Shot Borther (Key Business-Cold Fushion) with Brave Rhythm (Mac’s Major-Heavenly Wench) also NSW bred in third position.

 

The listed Burgess Queen Stakes for 3YO fillies run over 1400 metres was won by Point of No Return (Zedrich-Agnaran) from Amphritite (Statoblest(IRE)-Yasmin Tudor) with Trimagic (Tribu-Tripago) in third place.

Moonee Valley hosted black type night racing in Melbourne this week with the highlights of the meeting being the Group 2 Champagne Stakes and the JRA Cup a listed race. TBNSW members provided 2 winners (the two feature events), 1 second placing and 3 third placings on the night.

 

TBNSW members opened their account with a third placing in Race 1 the Sky Channel Handicap. Ribe (Danehill(USA)-Kapeskin(NZ)) won from Cool Azz (Encosta de Lago-Wake Up Sam) with Unvanquished (Spinning World(USA)-Transparency) bred by Mr G Murphy in third place.

 

One of the highlights of the meeting was Race 4 on the program the Group 2 Champagne Stakes for three-year-old fillies run over 1200 metres. TBNSW members were in the winner’s circle as well as providing the third placing in the event. It was the opening night at Canterbury Park in Sydney for the night racing season with seven events on the card. TBNSW members recorded 3 winners, 5 second placings and 1 third placing on the night.

Gosford was the venue for black type racing on Thursday which the Central Coast Herald Winning Form 3YO Classic and the Belle of the Turf Stakes, both listed races, the highlights of the program. TBNSW members provided the winner and third placing in the 3YO Classic and the second placing in the Belle of the Turf Stakes.

 

TBNSW members were in the winner’s circle, as well as providing the third placing in The Central Coast Herald Winning Form 3YO Classic a listed race for three-year-olds. Race 1 on the program was the Australian Tie Company Stakes a listed race for two-year-old fillies. Carlton Spirit (Fraar(USA)-Aces Royale) won from Rinky Dink (Distorted Humor(USA)-Peebinga Princess) with Gaelic Princess (King of Kings(IRE)-Celtic Lass) third.

 

It was second and third placings for TBNSW members in Race 2 on the program the Lobster Cave Stakes a listed race for two-year-old colts and geldings. Scaredee Cat(NZ)(Tale of the Cat(USA)-Last Lady(NZ)) was successful from Markane (Red Ransom(USA)-Kew Gardens(FR)) bred by Mr DPR Esplin with Dress Code (El Moxie(USA)-Ranein) bred by Dr J D Woolridge in third position.

 

It was a second placing for TBNSW members in Race 3 the Evan Evans Flags Cup. Foreign Affair (Bureaucracy(NZ)-Atlantic Lover) won from Energy Abounds (El Moxie(USA)-La Corsaire) bred by Mr S G Van Eyk, Mr S L Ware and Mr A Kalogerou with Leopard Strike(NZ)(Honor Grades(USA)-Imperial Beauty(NZ)) third.

 

The main event of the day was the Group 1 Thousand Guineas for three-year-old fillies and what a great result for TBNSW members who provided the quinella in the event. Macedon Lady (Filante(NZ)-Boo Ticket) bred by Mrs J Stearn and Mr W E Stearn finished too strongly for La Bella Dame (Royal Academy(USA)-Nobellocove) bred by Middlebrook Valley Lodge with Fuji Dancer (Fuji Kiseki(JPN)-Dancer’s Glory) making it an all NSW bred finish. Macedon Lady gave her sire Filante(NZ) his first Group 1 winner. Filante stands at Widden Stud, a longstanding TBNSW member.
