WEEKEND RACING - 7th & 8th of December 2002

Perth was the focus again for Black Type Racing on Saturday with Ascot hosting the Group 1 Fruit ‘N’ Veg Stakes, the listed Raconteur Stakes, the listed G A Towton Cup and the listed Jungle Dawn Classic. Doomben was the venue for the Group 3 Summer Stakes.

 

In Perth

Ascot hosted black type racing in Perth on Saturday with the running of the Group 1 Fruit ‘N’ Veg Stakes, the listed Raconteur Stakes, the listed G A Towton Cup and the listed Jungle Dawn Classic.

 

The first of the black type races was the Raconteur Stakes a listed race run over 1400 metres. Mapperholic (Mapperley’s Star/Capaholic) was successful from Caribbean Royale (Royal Academy(USA)-Shorwon) with Voix De Soie (Island Morn-Silky Queen) third.

 

The listed G A Towton Cup run over 2200 metres was next on the program with So Canny (So Dashing-Catchacan) scoring from the NSW bred Alibi Bay (Lomond Bay(NZ)-Alibi Time) with Mr Tambourineman (Serheed(USA)-Backpak) in third place.

 

The Jungle Dawn Classic, a listed race run over 1400 metres was the following event which saw Royal Sonata (Royal Academy(USA)-La Musique) salute from Metal Maiden (Metal Storm(FR)-Top Medal) with National Silk (Warring Nations(USA)-Silk Shadow) securing the minor position.

 

The highlight of the meeting was the Group 1 Fruit ‘N’ Veg Stakes run over 1800 metres. Blevvo (Blevic-Carenel) was too good for Finito (Palace Reign-Rare Idol(USA)) with Corporate Bruce (Corporate Raider-Cash Conversion) in third position.

 

In Brisbane

Doomben was the venue for black type racing in Brisbane on Saturday with the highlight of the meeting the Group 3 Summer Stakes. TBNSW members recorded 2 second placings and 2 third placings on the day.

 

TBNSW members opened their accouont with second and third placings in Race 2 the Campak Doomben Horseshow QTIS 2YO Handicap. Steel Cap (Celestial Dancer(IRE)-Golly’s Booty) won from Nibbler (Snippets-Bebhiinn) bred by Dr J D Woolridge with Bloodline (Dracula-Sketches) bred by Woodlands Stud in third position.

 

The highlight of the meeting was Race 7 the Group 3 Summer Stakes run over 1200 metres and TBNSW members recorded a third placing. Baal Yabba (Magic Ring(IRE)-Windscape) was successful from Smart Chariot (Chariot-Coral Spring) with Diamond Dane (Danehill(USA)-Diamond Shower) bred by Mrs S E Suduk in third place.

 

A second placing for TBNSW members in Race 8 Reward Insurance Calll Us Today Class 6 Handicap. Centona(NZ)(Centaine-Santanare) won from Wagstaffe (Secret Savings(USA)-Najett) bred by Yarraman Park Stud with How High Sir (Captain Piper-Jump for Joy) third.

 

 

In Sydney  7.12.02

Royal Randwick was the venue in Sydney on Saturday with nine events on the program. TBNSW members recorded 3 winners, 3 second placings and 4 third placings on the day.

 

TBNSW members opened their account with a trifecta in Race 1 the Maurice Lacroix – Tomorrows Classic Handicap. Aracena (Shovog-Vanity Time(NZ)) bred by Cescastle Pty Limited was successful from Niello (Octagonal(NZ)-Shadea(NZ)) bred by Woodlands Stud with Spinning Boy (Spinning World(USA)-Windfall) bred by Mr Gerry Harvey in third position.

It was a winner and a third placing for TBNSW members in Race 2 the Emirates Handicap. Lion Dancer (Lion Hunter-Flicka’s Star) bred by Mr L J Fleming scored from Alive ‘N’ Well (Woodman(USA)-Young and Free) with Music Land (Octagonal(NZ)-Bold Promise) bred by Mr S F Johnson in third place.

Second and third placings for TBNSW members in Race 3 the Trent Nathan Handicap. Southern Rose (Unbridled’s Song(USA)-The Roscoe Rose) won from Viator (Snaadee(USA)-Walk Whatcha Talk(USA)) bred by Emirates Park Pty Limited with Je Desire (Barathea(IRE)-Cap Camarat(CAN)) bred by Widden Stud in third position.

A second placing for TBNSW members in Race 5 the Abercrombie & Kent Transitional Handicap. Yes Chief (Chief’s Crown(USA)-Snow Leopard) won from Navy Blue (Bluebird(USA)-Velita(NZ)) bred by Mr L J Fleming with Tell Someone(NZ)(O’Reilly(NZ)-Snobbish(NZ)) third.

TBNSW members finished the day with a winner and a third placing in Race 9 the Love ‘N’ Deuce Tennis Centre Transitional Handicap. Boreale (Octagonal(NZ)-Spring Thaw(USA)) bred by Woodlands Stud was too good for Wyangan Pines (Royal Academy(USA)-Whispering Pines) with De Arman (Bemboka Spirit-Spy’s Lass) bred by Mr D L Nancarrow in third place.

Canterbury Park was the venue for Sunday metropolitan racing in Sydney with eight events on the card. TBNSW members recorded 3 winners, 1 second placing and 3 third placings on the day.

A third placing for TBNSW members in Race 2 the Dec 14th Christmas Giddy-Up Day Handicap. Strasbourg (Umatilla-Bella Ragazza) won from Hampden Park(NZ)(Volksraad(GB)-Nothing Less(NZ)) with Fawaz (Secret Savings(USA)-Gulab) bred by Emirates Park Pty Limited in third place.

Third again for TBNSW members in Race 3 the STC Membership Family & Friends Offer Handicap. Campbell’s Run (Lake Coniston(IRE)-Themes) was successful from Michael Da Dragon (Bite the Bullet(USA)-Gainesville(CAN)) with Ariante (Filante)NZ)-Arietta) bred by Mr R N Moclair in third position.

A great result for TBNSW members providing the trifecta in Race 5 the Visit WWW.THERACES.COM.AU Handicap. Action Annie (Anabaa(USA)-Overdue Reaction(IRE)) bred by Widden Stud scored from Ingres (Quest for Fame(GB)-Artistic Princess) bred by Woodlands Stud with Belle Marguerite (Pauillac-Orchid) bred by Mrs R M Westley-Smith in third place.

TBNSW members were in the winner’s circle in Race 6 the 12 December Sydney Night Racing Handicap when Ausbred Blue scored. Ausbred Blue (Bluebird(USA)-Stormy Zephyr) bred by Mr C Lawlor was too good for Marchioness (Snippets-Lady Chancery) with Autumn Showers (Autumn Dew –Remember Josie) third.

It was the winner’s circle again for TBNSW members in Race 7 the Book for Golden Slipper Festival Handicap when King’s Touch saluted. King’s Touch (King’s Theatre(IRE)-Touching You) bred by Mr L J Fleming scored from Kepi Blanc (Johann Quatz(FR)-Riot) with Sir Henry (Octagonal(NZ)-Lesseps(USA)) in third place.

 

 

In Melbourne

Sandown was the venue in Melbourne for Saturday racing with eight events on the program. TBNSW members recorded a second placing and 2 third placings on the day.

 

TBNSW members opened their account with a third placing in Race 1 the Unishak Super Vobis Handicap. Step Ahead (Entrepreneur(GB)-Tennessee) won from Gibernau (Encosta De Lagoo-Maritime) with Bahamian Rhapsody (Bahamian Bounty(USA)-Amanda Mahal(NZ)) bred by Mr L J Fleming in third place.

 

A third placing for TBNSW members in Race 2 the Wood Court Inn Super Vobis Handicap. River Woman (Desert King(IRE)-River Express) was successful from More Than Fair (Military Plume(NZ)-Lady Fair) with Kidman (Quest for Fame(GB)-Unison) bred by Burst Pty Limited in third position.

 

A second placing for TBNSW members in Race 4 the Amounis Handicap. Palace Chief (Palace Music(USA)-Let’s Have Fun) scored from Paternal (My Patriarch(GB)-Countess Rhodie(NZ)) bred by Eclipse Stud with Lord Ardsley(NZ)(Lord Ballina-Effortless(NZ)) third.

 

WEEKEND RACING - 30th of November 2002

The focus was again on Perth for Black Type Racing on Saturday with Ascot hosting the Group 3 Champion Fillies Stakes, the Group 3 Prince of Wales Stakes and the T J Smith Trophy a listed race. Morphettville in Adelaide was the venue for the listed Top Cut Stakes and the listed City of Marion Stakes. Rosehill Gardens in Sydney hosted the listed Festival Stakes whilst Eagle Farm in Brisbane hosted the listed Recognition Stakes.

 

TBNSW members provided the winner in the listed Recognition Stakes.

 

In Perth

Ascot hosted black type racing in Perth on Saturday with the running of the Group 3 WA Champion Fillies Stakes, the Group 3 Prince of Wales Stakes and the T J Smith Trophy a listed race.

 

The first of the black type races was the T J Smith Trophy a listed race run over 1800 metres. Wool Zone (Flying Spur-Ashes) won from the NSW bred Zoometric (Unbridled’s Song(USA)-What A Joy) with Kennedy (Personal Flag(USA)-Dark Hope) third.

 

Next up was the Group 3 Prince of Wales Stakes run over 1200 metres and it was a trifecta for Western Australian bred horses. Tribula (Tribu-Tabula) won from Suspicion (Mukddaam(USA)-Flaming Heart) with Kaprats (Star Pak-Sister Fair) in third place.

 

The final black type race for the day was the Group 3 WA Champion Fillies Stakes which was run over 1600 metres. The NSW bred Superior Star (Nothin’ Leica Dane-Musters) was successful from Miss Belhus (Don’t Say Halo(USA)-Sky Chant) with Trimagic (Tribu-Tripago) in third position.

 

In Adelaide

Morphettville was the venue for black type racing in Adelaide on Saturday with the highlights being the listed The Top Cut Stakes and the listed City of Marion Stakes.

 

The listed Top Cut Stakes run over 2000 metres was Race 5 on the program and TBNSW members recorded a third placing. Lochi (Aliocha(USA)-Loughmoe Lady) was successful from Agincourt Express (Agincourt(USA)-Hillary’s Pride(NZ) with Newtown Jet(USA) (Prized-Strawberry Girl(USA)) bred by Mr J Singleton in third position.

 

The City of Marion Stakes, a listed race run over 1200 metres was the next event and it was taken out by Empress Waltz (Rubiton-Dancing Danny) from Real Time(NZ)(Desert Sun(GB)-Desert Strike(NZ)) with Oh So Discreet (Bluebird(USA)-Halo Again) third.

 

In Sydney

Rosehill Gardens was the venue in Sydney on Saturday for an 8 event card with the highlight of the meeting being the Festival Stakes, a listed race. TBNSW members recorded 3 winners, 3 second placings and a third placing on the day.

 

TBNSW members were off to a flying start providing the winner in Race 1 the AOG Handicap. Dorky (Grand Lodge(USA)-Boogie) bred by Woodlands Stud was too good for Regrade (Danzero–Kindly Thoughts(NZ)) with Barberton (Flying Spur-Gwalia) third.

 

A winner and a third placing for TBNSW members in Race 3 the CD Constructions Handicap. Almasiga (Timber Country(USA)-Avietwo(IRE)) bred by Mr L Tall was successful from Araluen Star (Spinning World(USA)-Seattle Baroness(USA)) with Barabella (Barathea(IRE)-Centrefold Spread) bred by Dr R J and Mrs J L Slack-Smith in third position.

 

Another winner for TBNSW members in Race 5 the Nisad Schizophrenia Research Handicap when Pearly Kings saluted. Pearly Kings (Quest for Fame(GB)-Pinctada(NZ)) bred by Woodlands Stud was too strong for Campbell’s Run (Lake Coniston(IRE)-Themes) with Mukareena (Mukaddamah(USA)-Call Me Kareena) third.

 

A second placing for TBNSW members in Race 6 the Bill Grace & Son Handicap. Laud Atlas (Snaadee(USA)-Laudham Mist) won from Participate (Brief Truce(USA)-Flamboyant) bred by Woodlands Stud with Cape Howe (Macksped-Allanoel) third.

 

The highlight of the meeting was Race 7 on the card the Festival Stakes, a listed race run over 1400 metres and TBNSW members recorded a second placing. This Manshood (Manshood(CAN)-Our Gilded Lily) scored narrowly from Gabfest (Brief Truce(USA)-Constant Chatter) bred by Woodlands Stud and Mr D W Storey with Raw Instinct(NZ)(Housebuster(USA)-Jinsky Rose(NZ)) in third place.

 

TBNSW members finished the day with a second placing in Race 8 the Hoc-Mai Superfecta. Onyx (Sri Pekan(USA)-Black Jewel) scored from Hot Tin Roof (Catrail(USA)-Evening Line(NZ)) bred by Mr DPR Esplin with Mr Attorney (Mister C.(USA)-Olney(GB)) in third position.

 

In Brisbane

Eagle Farm held an 8 event card in Brisbane on Saturday with the highlight being the listed Recognition Stakes. TBNSW members recorded 4 winners including the feature event) and a third placing on the day.

 

TBNSW members opened their account with a winner and a third placing in Race 4 the Tattersall’s ‘Live at 5’ QTIS Handicap. Stormy Joe (Hurricane Sky-Una Donna(NZ)) bred by Dr J D Woolridge was successful from Nutgrass (Buck’s Pride-Rastinski) with Maxcay (Marscay-Whitford Hill(NZ)) bred by Bhima Pty Limited in third position.

Another winner for TBNSW members in Race 5 the Healy Room Handicap when Devil saluted. Devil (Carry The Crown(CAN)-Filioque) bred by Dr R J and Mrs J L Slack-Smith was too good for Merkaba (Anabaa(USA)-Bianca Lancia(FR)) with Road to Heaven (St Covet-Rose Road) third.

The highlight of the meeting was the Recognition Stakes a listed race run over 1600 metres and it was a great result for TBNSW members who provided the winner of the event. Osca Warrior (Zeditave-Fionian) bred by Mr and Mrs N R Johnson was too strong for Laurinel Argie (Palace Music(USA)-Mamarracha(ARG)) with Final Intrigue (Incognito-Final Hour) in third place.

 

TBNSW members finished the day with yet another winner in Race 8 the Bob Douglas Memorial Handicap when Lighthouse Road scored. Lighthouse Road (Wategos-Trio Rogue) bred by Mr M J Dougherty won from Foxmore (Bite the Bullet(USA)-Folette) with Manrego (Grey Man-Spoinks Girl) third.

 

In Melbourne

Moonee Valley was the venue in Melbourne for Saturday racing. TBNSW members recorded a second placing on the day.

 

It was a second placing for TBNSW members in Race 5 the Goldbake Handicap. Silver Birch (Forest Glow(USA)-B’goara Lass) won from Kennett (Quest for Fame(GB)-Reign of Honour(NZ)) bred by Mr R M Daisley with Spring Warrior (Royal Academy(USA)-Springfire) in third place.

 

WEEKEND RACING - 23rd of November 2002

The focus moved to Perth for Black Type Racing on Saturday with Ascot hosting the Group 1 Railway Stakes, the listed Placid Ark Stakes and the listed Tattersalls Cup. Caulfield in Melbourne was the venue for the Group 3 Eclipse Stakes and the listed Merson Cooper Stakes. Eagle Farm in Brisbane hosted the running of the Queensland Cup a listed race.

 

TBNSW members provided the winner of the Queensland Cup a listed race.

 

In Perth

Ascot hosted black type racing in Perth on Saturday with the running of the Group 1 Railway Stakes, the listed Placid Ark Stakes and the listed Tattersalls Cup.

 

The first of the black type races was the Placid Ark Stakes a listed race run over 1200 metres for three-year-olds. Kim Storm (Metal Storm(FR)-Jungle Prayer) was too good for Old Beau (Old Spice-Chantruse) with Brave Rhythm (Fimiston-Tribal Beat(NZ)) in third position.

 

The highlight of the meeting was the Group 1 Railway Stakes run over 1600 metres and it was a trifecta for Western Australian bred horses. Old Fashion (Metal Storm(FR)-Matilda Waltz) was successful from Hardrada (Marooned(GB)-Marrich Bay) with Corporate Bruce (Corporate Raider-Cash Conversion) in third place.

 

The remaining black type race was the Tattersall’s Cup a listed race over 2200 metres. Blevvo (Belvic-Carenel) won from Bold Mirage(NZ)(Senor Pete(USA)-Mirramanda) with So Canny (So Dashing-Catchacan) third.

 

In Melbourne

Caulfield hosted black type racing in Melbourne with the highlights of the meeting being Group 3 Eclipse Stakes and the listed Merson Cooper Stakes. TBNSW members recorded 2 winners and a second placing on the day.

 

Race 2 on the program was the Merson Cooper Stakes a listed race for two-year-olds run over 1000 metres. Miss Terrain (Sparacus-Belle Banne) was too good for Poliphili (Flying Spur-Duena) with Cross Current (Keltrice-River Express) in third position.

 

TBNSW member’s opened their account with a winner in Race 3 the Corpfit Handicap. Kidman (Quest for Fame(GB)-Unison) bred by Burst Pty Limited was successful from River Woman (Desert King(IRE)-River Express) with Sacred Hill(NZ)(Langfuhr(CAN-Tanaquil) third.

 

The main event on the card was Race 5 the Eclipse Stakes a Group 3 event run over 2020 metres. The NSW bred Damaschino (Last Tycoon(IRE)-Princess Jocinda(NZ)) was too good for Another Warrior (Brave Warrior-Kate Be Good) with British Buska(NZ)(British Banker(CAN-Kentucky Road) third.

 

TBNSW members were back in the winner’s circle in Race 7 the Ultra Tune Handicap when Littlewood Lane saluted. Littlewood Lane (Dehere(USA)-Interlace) bred by Vinery Australia was too strong for Destruction Point (Lord Seymour(IRE)-Norwegian Girl) with Burglar(NZ)(Housebuster(USA)-Centre Isle(NZ)) in third place.

 

A second placing for TBNSW members in Race 8 the Signed Sealed Sainters Handicap. Born to Dream (Royal Academy(USA)-Dream About) won from Provokes (Octagonal(NZ)-Excited Angel) bred by Woodlands Stud with Woodwina (Woodman(USA)-Edwina) third.

A third placing for TBNSW members in Race 2 the Forty Winks Caringbah Handicap. Rouge Homme (Strategic-Fantastique) won from Sierra Dane (Danehill(USA)-Sierra Finch) with Fawaz (Bluebird(USA)-Diversify) bred by Emirates Park Pty Limited in third place.

 

Second and third placings for TBNSW members in Race 3 the Motorola Australia Handicap. Le Roi Brown (Dehere(USA)-Pray for Reign) scored from Jeremiad (Octagonal(NZ)-Lament) with Masked (Quest for Fame(GB)-Stockings) in third position. Both second and third placegetters were bred by Woodlands Stud.

 

A second placing for TBNSW members in Race 4 the Wellington Industries Plate. Sequi (Danehill(USA)-Sequenza(IRE)) won from Almasiga (Timber Country(USA)-Avietwo(IRE)) bred by Mr L Tall with Beryl (Bite the Bullet(USA)-Bespangled(USA)) in third place.

 

TBNSW members were back in the winner’s circle in Race 5 the Active Mail Handicap when Lasting Faith scored. Lasting Faith (Humam(IRE)-Faith Goddess) bred by Middlebrook Valley Lodge and Eclipse Stud was too good for Family of Song (Unbridled’s Song(USA)-Cousins) with The Great Gatsby (Quest for Fame(GB)-Klailine) third.

 

TBNSW member’s finished the day with a second placing in Race 8 the L J Hooker/Tristate Produce Handicap. Irish Crusader(NZ)(O’Reilly(NZ)-Expoeve(NZ)) won from Hot Tin Roof (Catrail(USA)-Evening Line(NZ)) bred by Mr DPR Esplin with Bronz(NZ)(Carolingian-Our Lady Bird(NZ)) in third place.

TBNSW member’s opened their account with a winner in Race 5 the Our Jug QTIS Handicap when Introduce saluted. Introduce (Brief Truce(USA)-Presented At Court) bred by Woodlands Stud was too good for Amex (Success Express(USA)-Spriggy) with Gempack (Harvey Pack(USA)-Arietta’s Gem) in third place.

The highlight of the meeting was the Queensland Cup a listed race run over 3200 metres and what a great result for TBNSW members providing the trifecta in the event. Time Signal (Snaadee(USA)-Pribor(USA)) bred by Emirates Park Pty Limited was successful from Yuppie (Dr Grace(NZ)-Trendy Angel(NZ)) bred by Stratheden Stud with Kugelhopf (Akaaber(USA)-Bebhinn) bred by Inverness Stud in third position.

 

WEEKEND RACING - 16th of November 2002

The focus was again on Melbourne for Black Type Racing on Saturday with Sandown hosting the Group 2 Sandown Classic, the Group 2 Sandown Guineas, the Group 3 Sandown Stakes, the listed AAMI Plate, the listed Kevin Heffernan Stakes and the listed Summoned Stakes. Ascot in Perth was the venue for the Group 2 Western Australian Guineas, the Group 3 R J Peters Stakes and the listed R S Crawford Stakes. Eagle Farm in Brisbane hosted the running of the Brisbane Handicap a listed race.

 

TBNSW members provided the winners of the Group 2 Sandown Guineas and the Group 3 Sandown Stakes.

 

In Melbourne

Sandown hosted black type racing in Melbourne with 9 races on the program. The highlights of the meeting were the Group 2 Sandown Classic, the Group 2 Sandown Guineas and the Group 3 Sandown Stakes. TBNSW members recorded 3 winners (including a Group 2 and a Group 3 win), 1 second placing and 1 third placing on the day.

 

Race 2 on the program was the AAMI Plate a listed race for 3YO fillies run over 1400 metres. Bumptious (Quest for Fame(GB)-Pert) won from Red Labelle (Blevic-Top Polish) with Rortrice (Rory’s Jester/Lady of Renown) third.

 

It was a second placing for TBNSW members in Race 3 the Kevin Heffernan Stakes a listed race run over 1200 metres. Century Kid(NZ)(Centaine-Zeffi) was successful from Suit (Procol Harum(NZ)-Fashions) bred by Woodlands Stud with Belle De Jour (Dehere(USA)-Delightful Belle(NZ)) in third place.

A third placing for TBNSW members in Race 6 the Group 2 Sandown Classic run over 2400 metres. TBNSW members were in the winner’s circle again in Race 7 the Group 3 Sandown Stakes when Salgado scored. Salgado (Danewin-Slight Chance(NZ)) bred by Hobartville Stud was successful from Mr Magoo (Rustic Amber(IRE)-Lady Cipayo(NZ)) with Lord Erin(NZ)(Lord Ballina-Erin Marie(NZ)) third.

 

Race 8 on the program was the Summoned Stakes a listed race run over 1500 metres. Bridal Hill (Unbridled’s Song(USA)-Stormy Hill) won from Special Grange (Dehere(USA)-She’s So Special(NZ)) with Shovoff (Danehill(USA)-Startling Lass) third.

Ascot hosted black type racing in Perth on Saturday with the running of the Group 2 Western Australian Guineas, the Group 3 R J Peters Stakes and the listed R S Crawford Stakes.

 

One of the highlights of the meeting was Race 6 on the program the Group 2 Western Australian Guineas which was won by The Right Money (Magic of Money-Bellcourt) from Trimagic (Tribu-Tripago) with Amphritite (Statoblest(IRE)-Yasmin Tudor) in third place.

 

Race 7 on the program was the R S Crawford Stakes, a listed race run over 1200 metres. Beautiful Bon Bon (Ron Bon(USA)-Morning Watch) was too good for Kaprats (Star Pak-Sister Fair) with Jumallique (Umatilla(NZ)-Jalique) third.

 

The Group 3 RJ Peters Stakes was the other highlight on the program and it was won by Kensyl Bay (Tribu-Princess Hayley) from Old Fashion (Metal Storm(FR)-Matilda Waltz) with Tumeric (Old Spice-Goldie’s Best) in third position.

WEEKEND RACING - 9th of November 2002

Another great weekend of Black Type Racing. On Saturday the focus was again on Melbourne with the last day of the Melbourne Cup Carnival at Flemington. The black type races included the Group 1 Emirates Stakes, the Group 2 Maribyrnong Plate, the Group 2 Queen Elizabeth Stakes, the Group 3 Matriarch Stakes, the listed Interlink Stakes and the listed Hilton International Stakes. Ascot in Perth was the venue for the Group 2 Lee Steere Stakes and the listed Ascot Gold Cup. Morphettville in Adelaide hosted the running of the Hamilton Holden Classic a listed race.

 

TBNSW members provided the winner of the listed Hilton International Stakes.

 

In Melbourne

Flemington hosted black type racing in Melbourne with 9 races on the program. The highlight of the meeting was the Group 1 Emirates Stakes. TBNSW members recorded 1 winner (a listed race), 4 second placings and 3 third placings on the day.

 

Race 2 on the program was the Group 2 Maribyrnong Plate a Group 2 event for 2YOs run over 1000 metres. Ra Sun (General Nediym-Red Sundae) won from Pinchbeck (Gilded Time(USA)-Brass) with Express Ball (Success Express(USA)-Belle of the Ball) third.

 

The Group 3 Matriarch Stakes was Race 3 on the program and it was won by Damaschino (Last Tycoon)IRE)-Princess Jocinda) from Little Miss Quick(NZ)(Pentire(GB)-Annifrid(NZ)) with Terrenora (Encosta De Lago – Tattenora) third.

The highlight of the day was Race 6 the Group 1 Emirates Stakes over 1600 metres and TBNSW members provided the second and third placings. Scenic Peak (Scenic(IRE)-Chesapeake) was successful from Crawl (Dr Grace(NZ)-Traipse) bred by Woodlands Stud with Excellerator (Marscay-Artless) bred by Bhima Pty Limited in third position.

 

 

It was a third placing for TBNSW members in Race 8 the Group 2 Queen Elizabeth Stakes run over 2500 metres. Makybe Diva(GB)(Desert King(IRE)-Tugela(USA)) scored most impressively from Spirit of Westbury(NZ)(Sir Tristram(IRE)-Lucky Witch) with Time Off (Night Shift(USA)-Sonolia) bred by Woodlands Stud in third place.

 

TBNSW members finished the day with second and third placings in Race 9 the Carnival Welter. Mr Magoo (Rustic Amber(IRE)-Lady Cipayo(NZ)) finished too strongly for Debrief (Brief Truce(USA)-Ashajest(NZ)) with Flavour (Rubiton-Ice Cream Sundae) a fast finishing third. Both the second and third placegetters were bred by Woodlands Stud.

What a fantastic weekend of Black Type Racing. On Saturday the focus was again on Melbourne with the opening day of the Melbourne Cup Carnival at Flemington. It was an all "black type" day with the running of the Group 1 Victoria Derby, the Group 1 Mackinnon Stakes, the Group 1 Salinger Stakes, the Group 2 SAAB Quality, the Group 2 Nestle Peters Classic, the Group 2 Wakeful Stakes, the Group 3 Yallambee Stud Stakes, the Group 3 L’Oreal Paris Plate and the Group 3 William Inglis Carbine Club Stakes. Ascot in Perth was the venue for the Group 3 Asian Beau Stakes and the listed York Stakes.

 

TBNSW members provided winners in the Group 1 Victoria Derby (Helenus), the Group 1 Mackinnon Stakes (Lonhro), the Group 2 Wakeful Stakes (Hierogram) and the Group 3 L’Oreal Paris Plate (Planchet).

 

In Melbourne

The NSW bred To Be Fair scored a surprise win in the opening event of the carnival the Group 3 Yallambee Stud Stakes. To Be Fair (Kaaptive Edition(NZ)-Western Rumour) was too strong for Palladium Star (Palace Music(USA)-Lady Savvino) with Tarcoola Midnight (El Moxie(USA)-Lady Moorika) third.

 

A winner and a third placing for TBNSW members in Race 2 on the program the Group 3 L’Oreal Paris Plate. Planchet (Canny Lad-Penny) bred by Woodlands Stud won on protest from Blur (Flying Spur-Balcanny) with Choisir (Danehill Dancer(IRE)-Great Selection) bred by Mr R M Daisley in third position.

 

Race 3 on the program was the Group 2 SAAB Quality. Requiem (Danehill(USA)-Le Lilas(NZ)) was successful from Miss Melliss(NZ)(Zabeel(NZ)-Cake(ARG)) with Piachay(NZ)(Danasinga-Pleasure(NZ)) third.

 

The Group 2 Nestle Peters Classic was Race 4 on the program was taken out by the NSW bred Miss Zoe (Zoffany(USA)-Ivory Rose) from Purple Groove(NZ)(Rhythm(USA)-Irises) with Ramano’s Star (Bletchencore-Romano’s Magic) third.

 

It was back to the winner’s circle as well as a third placing for TBNSW members in Race 5 the Group 2 Wakeful Stakes. Hierogram (Octagonal(NZ)-Enshrine) bred by Woodlands Stud was too good for It’s Who Deanie (Fuji Kiseki(JPN)-Deanie(USA)) with Lashed (Encosta de Lago-Traffic Watch) bred by Mrs C M Upjohn in third position.

Helenus (Helissio(FR)-Worldwide Elsie(USA)) bred by Widden Stud saluted from Hydrometer (Geiger Counter(USA)-Spirit of Oakbank) with Ain’t Here (Dehere(USA)-Ain’t She A Daisy(USA)) bred by Mr S F Johnson in third place.

 

Another highlight on the day was Race 7 the Group 1 Mackinnon Stakes and TBNSW members were again successful providing the quinella in the event. Lonhro (Octagonal(NZ)-Shadea(NZ)) bred by Woodlands Stud scored from Royal Code (Kings’s Theatre(IRE)-Cryptomagic(USA)) bred by Mr L J Fleming with Distinctly Secret(NZ)(Distinctly North(USA)-Te Akau Secret(NZ)) third.

 

The other highlight of the meeting was Race 8 the Salinger Stakes which was taken out by Rubitano (Rubiton-Mrs Soffel) from Intelligent Star (Picnicker-Aerate) with Cosmic Strike (Made of Gold(USA)-National Star) third.

The highlight of the meeting was Race 7 on the card the Group 1 W S Cox Plate and what a race it was. TBNSW members recorded a second placing in the event. On Saturday Caulfield was the venue in Melbourne with the running of the Group 1 Caulfield Cup, the Group 2 Norman Robinson Stakes, the Group 2 Caulfield Sprint, the Group 3 Melbourne Racing Club Stakes, the Group 3 Coongy Handicap, the Group 3 Tristarc Stakes and the listed Tupperware Cup. Randwick hosted the listed Lightning Handicap and the listed City Tattersall’s Club Cup. Ascot in Perth was the venue for the listed Belgravia Stakes and the listed Anniversary Cup. On Sunday, Seymour was the venue for the Seymour Cup a listed race.

The Group 2 Caulfield Sprint was Race 7 on the program and it was won by Rubitano (Rubiton-Mrs Soffel) from Intelligent Star (Picnicker-Aerate) with Pembleton (Marauding(NZ)-Royal Aria(NZ)) third.

What a great long weekend of Black Type Racing. Friday night saw Moonee Valley host the Group 2 Bill Stutt Stakes.

 

Saturday was black type racing at Randwick for the Group 1 Flight Stakes, the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes, the Group 1 Epsom Handicap, the Group 3 Craven Plate, the listed Canonbury Stakes, the listed Brian Crowley Stakes and the listed Angst Quality. Flemington was the venue for Melbourne black type racing with the Group 2 Turnbull Stakes, the Group 2 Edward Manifold Stakes, the Group 3 Jayco Stakes, the Group 3 Gilgai Stakes and the listed Concept Sports Stakes. Cheltenham Park chimed in with the Hill Smith Stakes a listed race.

 

Monday saw black type racing at Randwick for the Group 1 The Metropolitan, the Group 3 The Shorts and the listed Widden Stakes, Flemington provided the Maribyrnong Trial Stakes a listed race for 2YOs.

Royal Randwick was the Sydney venue on Saturday with 8 events contested. The highlights of the day were the 3 Group 1 events the Epsom Handicap, the Flight Stakes and the Spring Champion Stakes. TBNSW members had a great day providing 4 winners (2 Group 1’s and 2 listed races), 4 second placings and 3 third placings on the day.

 

TBNSW members put the writing on the wall as to their intentions for the day when they provided the trifecta in the opening event, the Canonbury Stakes, a listed race for 2YO Colts and Geldings. Hammerbeam (Grand Lodge(USA)-Flamboyant) scored from his stablemate Bushland (Quest for Fame(GB)-Terrain) both bred by Woodlands Stud with L’Espalier (Marscay-Pretty Buttons) bred by Mr R A Ferguson in third position.

 

TBNSW members provided the winner in Race 2 the Brian Crowley Stakes, a listed race for three-year-olds when Planchet saluted. Planchet (Canny Lad-Penny) bred by Woodlands Stud was too strong for Chuckle (Danehill(USA)-Clowning) with Air of Grace (Vettori(IRE)-All Done) third.

 

The Group 1 Flight Stakes was Race 4 on the program and TBNSW members provided the quinella. Royal Purler (Hector Protector(USA)-Purling) bred by Arinya Investments won from Victory Vein (Mr Henrysee(USA)-Protective) bred by Meringo Stud with Private Steer (Danehill Dancer(IRE)-Lisheenowen) third.

 

Race 5 on the program was the Group 3 Craven Plate. Manner Hill (Danehill(USA)-Mannerism) was too strong for Spillway(NZ)(Centaine-Riverlette(NZ)) with Forest Jim(NZ)(Grosvenor(NZ)-Skylarking) third.

 

It was a second placing for TBNSW members in Race 6 the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes. Platinum Scissors (Danehill(USA)-Shantha’s Choice) won from Soprana (Carnegie(IRE)-Regal Odyssey(NZ)) bred by Dr J D Woolridge with Maskerado(NZ)(Straight Strike(USA)-Classic Eve(NZ)) recording the minor placing.

 

Race 7 on the program was the main event of the day the Group 1 Epsom Handicap and TBNSW members had a great result providing the trifecta in the event. Excellerator (Marscay-Artless) bred by Bhima Pty Limited was successful from Kingsgate (Danzero-Vowed) bred by Mr L J Fleming with Gordo (Brief Truce(USA)-Spirit) bred by Woodlands Stud in third place.

 

A third placing for TBNSW members in the last race of the day the Angst Quality, a listed race run over 1400 metres.
