In Melbourne Geelong was the venue for mid-week and black type racing in Melbourne this week with ten events on the program and the highlights being the Group 3 Geelong Cup and the listed Geelong Classic. TBNSW members recorded a second placing and 2 third placings on the day.
A second placing for TBNSW members in Race 2 the VISY Recycling Class 1 Handicap. Speriamo (Kaapstad(NZ)-Cate’s Mill) was successful from Campaign (Anabaa(USA)-Te Akau Toy) bred by Widden Stud with Envigor (Encores(NZ)-Jontue Lass) third.
A third placing for TBNSW members in Race 3 the Cavalier Art Supplies Class 2 Handicap. Bruges(NZ)(Groom Dancer(USA)-Rationaine(NZ)) finished too strong for Pink Fit (Flying Spur-My Pink(USA)) with Canny Be Good (Canny Lad-Breathless) bred by Holbrook Thoroughbreds in third position.
Race 6 on the program was the first of the black type races the listed Geelong Classic run over 2200 metres for three-year-olds. Penitentiary(NZ)(Pentire(GB)-Strangeways(NZ)) scored most impressively from Northface (Desert King(IRE)-Pirates Quill(USA)) with Our Spur (Flying Spur-Balfine) third.
The Group 3 Geelong Cup run over 2400 metres was the main event and Race 8 on the program. Zazzman (Distinctly North(USA)-Glen Iris) led all the way and scored from She’s Archie (Archway(IRE)-A Little Timid) with Tumeric (Old Spice-Goldie’s Best) in third place.
TBNSW members finished the day with a third placing in Race 10 the Schweppes Class 4 Handicap. Bercardee Pearl (Blalocks Bull-Achtung Valour) won from Broadband (Langfuhr(CAN)-News Box(NZ)) with Unvanquished (Spinning World(USA)-Transparency) bred by Mr G Murphy in third position.
In Adelaide Murray Bridge was the venue for black type racing in Adelaide with the running of the listed Murray Bridge Gold Cup. King’s Arch (Archway(IRE)-Famous Ruler) scored from Fly for Me (Trucent-Carmen Delight) with Mustaagel(NZ)(Pentire(GB)-Frenetic(NZ)) in third place.
In Sydney The metropolitan mid-week race meeting in Sydney this week was held at Canterbury Park with eight events on the card. TBNSW members recorded 3 winners, 2 second placings and 6 third placings on the day.
TBNSW members opened their account with a third placing in Race 1 the Tooheys New Plate. Fictitious Lady (Flying Spur-Our Fiction) scored from Church on Sunday (Bubble Gum Fellow(JPN)-Will Fly) with Epona Star (Red Ransom(USA)-Millie) bred by Reavill No 1 Partnership in third position.
TBNSW members were in the winner’s circle as well as providing the third placing in Race 2 the BMW 5 Series Handicap. Empowered (Zeditave-Empower) bred by Newhaven Park Stud was too good for Garfish (Baryshnikov-Shalomin) with Shadow Hawk (Unbridled’s Song(USA)-All the Rave) bred by Milburn Creek Thoroughbreds in third place.
A third placing for TBNSW members in Race 3 the A. Royale Plate. Cellar Edition (Brocco(USA)-Danera) won from Ilongga Magic (Royal Academy(USA)-Magic Value(USA)) with Danrese (Hurricane Sky-Snorvig) bred by Mr P P Atkins in third position.
Another third placing for TBNSW members in Race 4 the Centacare Handicap. Portland Singa(NZ)(Danasinga-State of Oregon(NZ)) scored from Brimley (Success Express(USA)-Boutique Dancer) with Moo (Thunder Gulch(USA)-Silent Water) bred by Meringo Stud Farm in third place.
A second placing for TBNSW members in Race 6 the Kia Ora Stud Handicap. Conquest (Fuji Kiseki(JPN)-Partible) scored narrowly from Bonne Famille (Anabaa(USA)-Les Mis) bred by Widden Stud with Kingston Shores (All Ashore(NZ)-Softly Spoken) third.
A great result for TBNSW members providing the trifecta in Race 7 the Tip Top Bakeries Handicap. Takas (Quest for Fame(GB)-Foreign Bank(NZ)) bred by Woodlands Stud was successful from Lodgment (Grand Lodge(USA)-Seal Point) bred by Mrs C A Richards with Blue Patriarch (My Patriarch(GB)-Kalevala) bred by Eclipse Stud in third position.
TBNSW members finished the day in the winner’s circle as well as providing the third placing in Race 8 the MTA Handicap. Danny Dancer (Danehill Dancer(IRE)-Great Selection) bred by Mr R M Daisley won from Raid and Rule (Marauding(NZ)-Vanity Time(NZ)) with I Scream (Quest for Fame(GB)-Ice Cream Sundae) bred by Woodlands Stud in third place.

Sydney Black type racing was held mid-week in Sydney when Gosford hosted the listed Belle of the Turf Stakes.
TBNSW members were in the winner’s circle when Imperatrix saluted in the listed Belle of the Turf Stakes run over 1600 metres for fillies and mares. Imperatrix (Strategic-Curator(CAN)) bred by Tareena Bloodstock was too good for Gold Lottey (Encosta de Lago-Lottey) with Mrs Tendulkar (Luskin Star-Saving(NZ)) in third position.

In Melbourne Caulfield was the venue for mid-week and black type racing in Melbourne this week with eight events on the program and the highlights being the Group 1 Thousand Guineas, the listed Debutant Stakes and the listed Hardy Amies Stakes. TBNSW members recorded a winner (a LR), a second placing and 3 third placings on the day.
TBNSW members were off to a flying start when Picket Fence saluted in Race 1 the listed Debutant Stakes run over 900 metres for two-year-old colts and geldings. Picket Fence (Commands-Mopani) bred by Woodlands Stud finished too strongly for the NSW bred Coats Choice (Redoute’s Choice-Coat) with Oratorio (Stravinsky(USA)-Express a Smile) third.
A third placing for TBNSW members in Race 2 the listed Hardy Amies Stakes for two-year-old fillies run over 900 metres. Alinghi (Encosta de Lago-Oceanfast) was successful from Alizes(NZ)(Rory’s Jester-La Baraka) with Marie Madeleine (Redoute’s Choice-Star Plume) bred by Dr FWP Cradock in third position.
The main event on the program was Race 5 the Group 1 Thousand Guineas run over 1600 metres for three-year-old fillies and it was a third placing for TBNSW members. Special Harmony (Spinning World(USA)-Marooned Lady) finished too well for Hinting (Danzero-Won’t Tell) with Spurcent (Flying Spur-San Century(NZ)) bred by Mr K Rose in third place.
TBNSW members finished the day with second and third placings in Race 8 the Carlton Draught Handicap. Kookaburra(FR)(Zafonic(USA)-Annoconnor(USA)) won from Dance on Wood (Woodman(USA)-Kirov Dancer(NZ)) bred by Mr J M Ryan with Pindari Prince (Toy Pindarri(NZ)-Princess of Ross) bred by Mr W J and Mrs C L McCullagh in third position.

Second and third placings for TBNSW members in Race 2 the Bernbrook Handicap. Magic Quest (Quest for Fame(GB)-Lodore Magiz(NZ)) won from Empowered (Zeditave-Empower) bred by Newhaven Park Stud with Coolgardie (Gold Fever(USA)-Celebrity Status(NZ)) bred by Widden Stud in third position.
TBNSW members were in the winner’s circle when Incarnation scored in Race 5 the Citius Handicap. Incarnation (Danzero-Spirit of Paris) bred by Gazal Thoroughbreds was too strong for Lapwing (Free Flyer(IRE)-Unrocel Lap) with Sharp Enough(NZ)(Kaapstad(NZ)-So Keen(NZ)) third.
TBNSW members finished the day on a winning note when Riding Master saluted in Race 7 the Lawman Handicap. Riding Master (Desert King(IRE)-Snow Finch(IRE)) bred by Macquarie Stud was too good for Pensive Warfare (Strategic-Pensacola) with Super Irish (Ivory’s Irish-Nile Queen) in third place.

Black Type Racing Mid-week black type racing was held at Cranbourne in Melbourne with the running of the listed Cranbourne Cup run over 2025 metres and it was a great result for TBNSW members when Kattavia saluted. Kattavia (Grand Lodge(USA)-Kanacea(NZ)) bred by Mr M J and Mrs A E Nutman was too good for Out of Options (Stargazer(NZ)-Chosen Option) with Pinstripe(NZ)(Flying Pegasus(IRE)-Silk Pyjamas(NZ)) in third position.
In Sydney The first night racing meeting in Sydney for the season was held at Canterbury Park with seven events on the card. It was a wonderful night for TBNSW members who recorded 5 winners, 2 second placings and 4 third placings.
TBNSW members were off to a flying start providing the winner and third placegetter in Race 1 the Schweppervescence Lifestyle Handicap. Irongail (Canny Lad-Young Vic(GB)) bred by Mr G J Fischl scored most impressively from Portland Singa(NZ)(Danasinga-State of Oregon) with Whipper Snipper (Snippets-Marildo(NZ)) bred by Macquarie Stud in third position.
The winner’s circle and a third placing for TBNSW members in Race 2 the Ciata Bellezza Plate. Octzano (Octagonal(NZ)-Ginzano) bred by V and V M Thoroughbreds Pty Limited was successful from Sadler’s Song (Song of Tara(IRE)-Alouette) with Reconnoitre (Octagonal(NZ)-Gestures) bred by Woodlands Stud in third place.
TBNSW members were in the winner’s circle when Helden Park saluted in Race 3 the Schweppes Viage Handicap. Helden Park (Dehere(USA)-Irish Joke) bred by Dr R J and Mrs J L Slack-Smith was too good for Sunshine Sam(NZ)(Desert Sun(GB)-Crest View) with Racer’s Success (Racer’s Edge-Runaway Success) third.
Dance with Deb made it four wins in a row for TBNSW members in Race 4 the Solo Sprint Handicap. Dance with Deb (Desert King(IRE)-Vain Deb) bred by Gooree Park Stud scored effortlessly from Silk and Money (Frisco View(USA)-Seen Before) with Church on Sunday (Bubble Gum Fellow(JPN)-Will Fly) third.
A third placing for TBNSW members in Race 5 the Slinky Slimline Handicap. Gallant Son(NZ)(Zabeel(NZ)-The Dimple(NZ)) won from My Chinese King (Distorted Humor(USA)-Innocent Gypsy) with Newington Style (Desert Style(IRE)-Pagan Dance) bred by Yarraman Park Stud in third position.
