New additions for the 2004 season

Darley Stud have announced that Dubai Destination and Cape Cross will shuttle to their New South Wales base in the Hunter Valley for the 2004 southern hemisphere season.  Dubai Destination (Kingmambo-Mysterial) who was a US$1.5 million yearling from the Keeneland July Select Yearling Sale, was the last horse to beat Rock of Gibraltar before his seven Group 1 winning steak.  Cape Cross (Green Desert-Park Appeal) transfers from Cambridge Stud in New Zealand where he has spent the past 4 southern hemisphere seasons.  Fees for both stallions are yet to be announced.

Meanwhile, Collingrove Stud in Victoria have announced that Hold That Tiger will shuttle to Victoria this year.  Hold That Tiger (Storm Cat-Beware of the Cat) is a Group 1 winner in France and is currently serving his first season at Ashford Stud in Kentucky.

Another Overseas Group 1 Success for TBNSW member

TBNSW member Mrs C M Upjohn, would be exceedingly proud of Lashed, who she bred, after the mare scored at Group 1 level again.  Lashed (Encosta de Lago-Traffic Watch) was successful in the New Zealand Group 1 International Stakes run over 2000 metres at Te Rapa last weekend.  Lashed who settled well back in the field, finished too well for Penny Gem(NZ)(Pentire-Gemscay) with Kaapstad Way(NZ)(Kaapstad-Crysell Way) in third place.  Lashed has had 23 career starts for 6 wins, 5 second placings and 3 third placings for approximately $850,000 in career prizemoney.

Another Group 1 win for Silent Witness

Silent Witness bred by TBNSW member Mr I K Smith of Edinburgh Park Stud has won the first leg of the Champion Sprint Series in Hong Kong with a decisive win in the Group 1 Bauhinia Sprint Trophy at Sha Tin last weekend. Congratulations Ian from the TBNSW Committee and all TBNSW members.

Silent Witness (El Moxie(USA)-Jade Tiara) takes his record to nine from nine with career prizemoney of HK$18,051,900.  His next start will be in the Centenary Sprint Cup on 13 March 2004, the second leg of the Champion Sprint Series.

Silent Witness jumped quickly and led but was taken on by Firebolt with two furlongs to go.  The challenge however proved to be short lived as Silent Witness responded to a flick of the reins by Felix Coetzee to win as he pleased.  Silent Witness scored by 2¾ lengths from Firebolt (IRE)(Flying Spur-Musianica) with Cape of Good Hope(GB)(Inchinor-Cape Merino) in third place.

Silent Witness is now only one step away from equalling the Hong Kong record of 10 wins in a row.  The record was set over 20 years ago by Co-Tack, who as a matter of interest, was ridden in those wins by Silent Witness’ trainer Tony Cruz.
