New Zealand Premier Yearling Sale

The Premier Session of the National Yearling Sales ended in spectacular style with one of the last yearlings of the sale, Lot 509 the Danehill x Grand Echezeaux colt stealing the show. The colt was purchased by David Ellis of Te Akau Racing, New Zealand, from the draft of Pencarrow Stud for NZ$1,100,000, eclipsing the NZ$1,000,000 price tag achieved on Day 1 for Lot 159, the colt also by Danehill from Push A Venture.  Under bidder on the top colt was Adrian Nicoll of BBA Ireland, who secured the NZ$1million colt by Danehill x Push A Venture at the opening session.

The aggregate for the sale was NZ$44,782,000 which was an increase of NZ$10,000,000 (up 31%) on the 2003 figure.   There was also a 17% growth in the sale average from NZ$95,291 last year, to NZ$111,955, and the 8% upward movement in median price to NZ$72,500. The clearance rate remained on par with last year’s sale at 83%.
