Melbourne galloper Recast (Thunder Gulch-Abonnement by Marauding) has
been labelled as one of the new stars of the lucrative Singapore racing
season following a comprehensive win in the Singapore Guineas (1600m) at
Kranji recently. The
Swettenham Stud bred and Collingrove Stud sold galloper downed a crack
field - his second win in four starts since arriving in his new
homeland. In Australia
Recast started on two occasions for two impressive wins in Melbourne
when owned by prominent businessman and racehorse owner Lloyd Williams.
Recast, a son of Thunder Gulch, was sold by Collingrove Stud at
the 2002 Magic Millions January Yearling Sale on the Gold Coast. He was
knocked down to previous connections for just $80,000.
Now prepared by former Melbourne based trainer John Meagher,
Recast was ridden to his Guineas win by Brisbane's Jason Taylor.
Recast had a length and a half break at the end of the 1600 metre
race. Druid's Lodge (Geroudis)
did best of his opposition finishing second, while the winner's
stablemate Lim's Grand (Soo) was a further one and a quarter lengths
back in third place. The
latest star of the Singapore racing scene is from Abonnement, a
Marauding half sister to the exceptional performer Schubert.
Recast is the first foal for Abonnement, who's a daughter of the
top Swettenham Stud producer Rossignol.
Her latest yearling (a Danehill colt) was sold at January's Magic
Millions Yearling Sale on the Gold Coast, while the latest addition to
the top family is a filly by Flying Spur.
The mare was served last spring by Jamieson Valley's sire Desert
Prince. (Magic
