Update of
World’s Top Ranked Horses
The
International Federation of Horseracing Authorities (IFHA) publish
listings of the World’s top ranked horses in January, April, August,
October and November, after the major international racing events. The
listing is compiled by the World Rankings Supervisory Committee. In the
latest update, which is current to 31 March 2005, five Australian bred
horses (six if we include Makybe Diva who carries the suffix of (GB))
are included in the Top 50. The five horses in question are Silent
Witness (rated at 123 and ranked equal 5th), Grand
Armee (rated at 119 and ranked equal 19th), Elvstroem
(rated 118 and ranked equal 24th), Savabeel (rated 118
and ranked equal 24th) and Fastnet Rock (rated 117 and
ranked equal 36th). It is very pleasing from a NSW breeding
point of view that four of those five horses were bred in New South
Wales. Heading the World Rankings list is the Breeders’ Cup Classic
winner Ghostzapper who had a 130 rating. Makybe Diva, who made
her debut on the listing in equal 19th place, was given a 119
rating. |

How Easy Was
That? Silent Witness does it again !!
Sixteen
wins from as many starts, that’s the career record of reigning Hong
Kong Horse of the Year Silent Witness who was bred by TBNSW Mr
I K Smith of Edinburgh Park Stud. The latest win for Silent
Witness was in the Group 1 Chairman’s Sprint Prize, the final leg
of the Champion Sprint Series run at Sha Tin on 3 April 2005. Silent
Witness has now recorded successive wins in the Hong Kong Champion
Sprint Series. For the record Silent Witness (AUS) (El Moxie(USA)-Jade
Tiara) scored, yet again, as he liked but officially by a length and
three-quarters from Tiber (IRE) (Titus Livius-Exciting) with Cape of
Good Hope (GB) (Inchinor-Cape Merino) a further two lengths away in
third place. Silent Witness equalled the Sha Tin six furlong
record in the race. Silent Witness who has earned some HK
$45,136,900, now heads to the Group 2 Queen’s Silver Jubilee Cup over
1400 metres, his first time over the distance, on 24 April 2005. Silent
Witness has now equalled the record of Ribot in Europe and Cigar and
Citation in North America of consecutive wins and has also broken
Indigenous’ Hong Kong stakes record. In other good news for Mr I
Smith, Very Fit the half brother to Silent Witness (by
Woodman) won the last race on the card on the same day and takes his
record to four wins (consecutive), a second placing and a third placing
from only 6 race starts.
