More Moonlight is Third Stakes Winner for More Than Ready

More Moonlight impressively became the third stakes winners for Freshman Sire More Than Ready with her victory in the $60,000 Holly Stakes at the Meadowlands on Sunday.
Breaking sharply from the outside post in a field of nine, the dark bay filly settled nicely just off the pacesetters for the first furlong and a half. Full of run under jockey Stewart Elliott, she galloped to the lead with a half mile to run, opened a clear advantage coming off the turn while staying out four wide and drew away through the stretch to win easily by three lengths.  The progeny of More Than Ready are proving to very versatile having won from 900 to 1700m on dirt and turf, he is currently positioned fifth on the Freshman Sires list. A son of Southern Halo and winner of the Group 1 King's Bishop Stakes he has now sired 14 individual winners after the success on Sunday of daughter Readiness at Lone Star Park. He leads the Freshman sire list by number of repeat winners with 6 which includes his three stakes winners Ready Ruler, Ready To Live and the fore mentioned More Moonlight. Earlier this month the Todd Pletcher trained filly Ready's Gal was narrowly second in the Group 1 Frizette Stakes to leading juvenile Balletto after winning her first two race starts at Saratoga.  More Than Ready has been well received by Australian breeders and is currently half way through his fourth southern hemisphere season at Vinery which sees him with a full book of quality mares.

  The Best of British

A field worthy of its title lined up in the Emirates Airline Champion Stakes at Newmarket on October 16.  Haafhd (3c Alhaarth) came out a clear winner over the likes of Azamour, Refuse To Bend and Doyen and not long afterwards Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum announced his retirement. This year's 2000 Guineas winner will stand at Shadwell's Nunnery Stud in Britain next season for £20,000. That same day, Shamardal (2c Giant's Causeway) won the Darley Dewhurst Stakes. He put his name alongside those of past winners like Hyperion (1932), Nijinsky (1969) and Rock Of Gibraltar (2001) and heads the betting for next year's 2000 Guineas. The last of Britain's 31 Group One races for the season - the Racing Post Trophy - was run at Doncaster on Saturday (Oct 23). It went to Motivator (2c Montjeu) under Kieren Fallon. Fallon and Frankie Dettori have jostled for the Jockey's Championship in Britain (decided by race wins), but the Italian has pulled  clear late in the season to claim his second title, thanks in part to the outstanding season of Godolphin. Godolphin - through the exploits of Refuse To Bend (4c Sadler's Wells) - contributed one of the five horses to win multiple Group One races in Britain in 2004.  Other dual winners were Rakti (5h Polish Precedent), Soviet Song (4f Marju) and Haafhd - while Attraction (3f Efisio) was first home three times at the highest level.

Ain’t Here Stars in Hong Kong

Former Australian galloper and current Hong Kong star Ain't Here (Dehere-Ain't She a Daisy(USA)) provided champion trainer David Hayes with another feature race success when he scored a strong finishing win in the Group Three Sha Tin Trophy (1600m) at Sha Tin 17 October 2004.  The gelding by Dehere sat midfield during the mile race before coming with a brilliant finish to beat local star Bowman's Crossing by a neck, going away.  Winning jockey Brett Prebble was ecstatic as he flashed past the post the winner - giving the huge crowd a winning salute with his whip as he stormed away with the majority of the HK$2.3 million event.  It was Ain't Here's second run since a spell - following a campaign which included a number of excellent runs headed by his slashing third in the Group One Hong Kong Derby behind Lucky Owners.  Ain't Here - a $30,000 graduate from the 2001 Magic Millions Yearling Sale on the Gold Coast, has developed into one of Hong Kong 's most consistent top class performers after being purchased from his previous connections when trained by Peter Moody.  Ain't Here showed great promise during his Australian career - a career which included a fast closing third in the Group One Victoria Derby at Flemington.  The classy son of Dehere is among the early entries for the Hong Kong International Raceday and his local knowledge is sure to give him great benefit come raceday on December 12.  He has earned a staggering HK$4.8 million from just 14 starts in Hong Kong . He'd already scored $227,550 for previous connections when prepared by Peter Moody in Australia . Let's not forget he also scooped $135,000 in Singapore along the way too! That's a total converted figure in Aussie dollars of $1,183,597 - not bad for a $30,000 yearling buy!
