Tattersalls Ireland September Stakes Success Continues

The 2005 Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale has produced yet another black type winner with STEVIE GEE gaining his third success in a row when landing the Listed Ripon Champion 2yo Trophy on 28 August.  Trainer Alan Swinbank bought him for €32,000 from the Irish National Stud who are consigning his half-sister by Medecis, lot 456, in the 2006 Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale (5th-7th September).  STEVIE GEE’S sire INVINCIBLE SPIRIT, a clear leader on the first season sire list, is represented by 11 lots in the same sale.  STEVIE GEE is one of eight black type horses from the 2005 September Yearling Sale, alongside Gr.3 winner ENGLISH BALLET, who has entries in both the Group1 Fillies’ Mile and Cheveley Park, and this weekend’s Listed winner in Deauville, IRON FIST as well as the stakes placedHowya Now Kid, Dimenticata, Varsity Blues, Harvest Joy and Little White Lie.  The average price of these eight black type horses is less than €35,000!  To date there have been 60 plus 2yo winners from last year’s sale, a number not bettered by any other sale last year in Ireland.  IRON FIST was not the only Tattersalls Ireland September Sales graduate in the winner’s enclosure over the weekend, with INDIAN MAIDEN, winner of seven Listed sprints already, landing the Group 3 Prix de Meautry, also at Deauville for trainer Malcolm Saunders, who bought her for IR£22,000.  At the same time in Spain, 2005 September Yearling Sale graduate MIDNIGHT BEAUTY completed a hat trick of wins for trainer Mauricio Delcher, when landing the Criterium de San Sebastian, their feature 2yo race of the season.  Midnight Beauty was purchased by French-based MAB Agency for €27,000 from last year’s sale. The success of Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale graduates is by no means a new phenomenon, with high profile horses such as RISING CROSS (a €20,000 purchase), placed in both English and Irish Oaks this year, SAOIRE (€65,000) who won the Gr.1 Irish 1,000 Guineas winner in 2005, INDESATCHEL (€72,000) runner up Gr.1 French 2,000 Guineas 2005, MAJESTIC DESERT who cost €15,000 and had four Group 1 placings, SILVER CUP a €5,000 purchase and winner of the Gr.2 Italian 1,000 Guineas and three Grade 2 wins in a row this year in the US, amongst the notable successes.  The 2006 Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale takes place on 5th-7th September and will open with the New Sires Showcase, featuring selected yearlings by first crop sires.

  Tattersalls Ireland September Stakes Double

With the 2006 renewal of the Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling sales on the horizon (5th-7th September), graduates of previous sales have been hitting the headlines on the track.  In Deauville on 27th August the Eoghain O’Neill trained IRON FIST bought by John Fretwell for €38,000 at last year’s September Yearling sale made all to win the Listed Prix du Haras de la Huderie for 2yos.  Later in the afternoon at the same track, the ultra-consistent sprinting mare INDIAN MAIDEN took the Group 3 Prix de Meautry (6f).  Already a Listed winner seven times over and with earnings of over €350,000, Indian Maiden was purchased by trainer Malcolm Saunders at the Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale for IR£22,000.  At the same time in Spain, 2005 September Yearling Sale graduate MIDNIGHT BEAUTY completed a hat trick of wins for trainer Mauricio Delcher, when landing the Criterium de San Sebastian, their feature 2yo race of the season.  Midnight Beauty was purchased by French-based MAB Agency for €27,000.  IRON FIST becomes the seventh black type 2yo to come from the 2005 Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale, along with the Barry Hills trained Group 3 Sweet Solario winner English Ballet, and the stakes placed Howya Now Kid, Dimenticata, Varsity Blues, Harvest Joy and Little White Lie.  To date there have been at least 60 2yo winners from the 2005 Sale, more than from any other sale in Ireland.  The 2006 Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale takes place on 5th-7th September and will open with the New Sires Showcase, featuring 75 selected yearlings by first crop sires.

Tattersalls Group/Listed Clean Sweep at York

Tattersalls October Yearling Sales graduates enjoyed another huge day with a clean sweep of the Group and Listed races on day 2 of the prestigious York Ebor Meeting.  Leading the way was superstar filly ALEXANDROVA who completed the rare Oaks/Irish Oaks/Yorkshire Oaks treble with an effortless 3 ½ length win in the Group 1 Yorkshire Oaks. Purchased by the BBA Ireland at Part 1 of the 2004 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale for 420,000 guineas, ALEXANDROVA, by SADLER'S WELLS out of the SHIRLEY HEIGHTS mare SHOUK, is one of four individual Tattersalls 2006 Classic winners alongside 16,000 guineas Derby winner SIR PERCY, 150,000 guineas Irish 2000 Guineas winner ARAAFA and 2000 Guineas winner GEORGE WASHINGTON, the 1,150,000 guineas 2004 October 1 sale topper.  Highclere Thoroughbreds' two-year-old colt CONQUEST provided yet another fine advertisement for Part 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale with a determined ¾ length win in the Group 2 Gimcrack Stakes. Purchased by John Warren at last year's October 1 for 135,000 guineas, the William Haggas trained son of INVINCIBLE SPIRIT was consigned from Liam Cashman's Rathbarry Stud.  A graduate of Part 2 of the October Yearling Sale completed the Tattersalls clean sweep when the 12,000 guineas purchase NOT FOR ME continued trainer Tim Pitt's fine season with a smooth 1 ¾ length success in the Listed Roses Stakes. Pitt indicated that the son of MULL OF KINTYRE's next start may be the Group 2 Flying Childers over the same course and distance or the £250,000 Tattersalls October Auction Stakes which is open only to horses purchased at Parts 2 and 3 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sales.

Tattersalls Announces New Breeze Up Sale for 2007

Tattersalls is to stage a second Breeze Up Sale in 2007. The new sale will take place Friday 4th May which is the day before the two day Newmarket Guineas Meeting and will be named the Tattersalls Guineas Breeze Up Sale.  Tattersalls will aim to catalogue between 125 and 150 two-year-olds for the new sale, with all lots breezing adjacent to the Rowley Mile Racecourse on the same universally acclaimed strip of ground used for the principal breeze up in April. Each lot will 'breeze' on Thursday 3rd May prior to the one day sale taking place the following day.  Commenting on the new sale, Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony said:  "Having established the Tattersalls Breeze Up as Europe's premier two-year-olds in training sale we felt that the time was right to stage a second sale and Guineas weekend provides the perfect focal point for a new breeze up sale. The impetus for the new sale has come not only from the spectacular sale ring results but also from the racetrack achievements of the sale graduates. Last year's Tattersalls Breeze Up produced a higher percentage of Group 1 winning two-year-olds than any other 2005 two-year-olds in training sale and the 2006 sale has already produced the unbeaten Group 2 winner HAMOODY. Both purchasers and vendors like the proven Tattersalls Breeze Up format and we are keen to cater for the increased demand and also to provide an outlet for two-year-olds which may benefit from that little bit of extra time to mature.  Entries for both 2007 Tattersalls Breeze Up Sales should be made to Gavin Davies by Friday 8th December 2006 and visits of inspection for both sales will take place in the usual way during December 2006 and January 2007.
