TBNSW WELCOMES NEW

COMMITTEE MEMBER

Mr John Muir, President of Thoroughbred Breeders NSW Limited (TBNSW) has great pleasure in announcing that Mr Paul Whelan of Luskin Park Stud has been appointed to the TBNSW Committee.

Mr Whelan, a former Minister in the New South Wales Labor Government, is the proprietor of Luskin Park Stud, a boutique stud at Luskintyre in the Hunter Valley.

Mr Whelan fills the vacancy on the Committee created by the retirement of Mr Richard Turnley. Mr Whelan stated "I am delighted to join the TBNSW Committee and look forward to advancing the interests of NSW breeders."

TBNSW President Mr Muir commented "TBNSW is most fortunate to have found such an outstanding replacement for Mr Richard Turnley. Mr Whelan brings a wealth of knowledge to the Committee which will prove invaluable to TBNSW".

Mr Muir also paid tribute to outgoing Committee Member Mr Richard Turnley citing the monumental amount of time devoted not only to TBNSW and Thoroughbred Breeders Australia (TBA) by Mr Turnley, but also the thoroughbred industry. He stated "I cannot thank Mr Turnley enough for his tireless dedication to our industry and wish him every success in his future endeavours."

AWESOME AUSSIE RAIDERS

TAKE ROYAL ASCOT BY STORM

We all knew that Australian bred horses were good and now the world knows it again as well.

A new name has been added to the honour roll of Australian bred horses who have saluted in the black type arena internationally.

Miss Andretti (Ihtiram(IRE)-Peggie’s Bid) who was bred in Western Australia scorched over the turf at Royal Ascot in course record time to salute by 1¾ lengths in the Group 2 King’s Stand Stakes. Miss Andretti who took an incredible 2.35 seconds off Takeover Target’s course record (set in the 2006 running of this race) seemingly won unchallenged. The Irish bred Dandy Man (Mozart-Lady Alexander) finished in second place with fellow Australian breds Magnus (Flying Spur-Scandinavia) and our very own Takeover Target (Celtic Swing(GB)-Shady Stream) (bred by TBNSW member Meringo Stud Farm ) finishing in third and fourth placings respectively.

The win in the King’s Stand Stakes by Miss Andretti is the third in five years for Australian bred horses. The first success was recorded by Choisir (Danehill Dancer(IRE)- Great Selection) which was bred by TBNSW member Mr R Daisley in 2003 whilst Takeover Target bred by TBNSW member Meringo Stud Farm was successful last year.
