Stallion of the Month: The Autumn Sun

Arrowfield Stud sire The Autumn Sun (Redoute’s Choice) has moved beyond the “promising young sire” category and is now firmly operating as a consistent, high-output stallion whose stock are performing across a range of levels. His results through the 2025 Spring Carnival highlight this shift.

Across Melbourne Cup Week, The Autumn Sun finished on top of the Australasian sires’ table with 96 runners returning more than A$10.6 million in prizemoney. The sire of the likes of unbeaten mare Autumn Glow and Caulfield Guineas winner Autumn Boy finished narrowly ahead of Fastnet Rock (56 winners for $10.35m).

He has produced a growing list of other stakes performers and Group-level winners, including Autumn Angel, Coco Sun, Vibrant Sun, and Autumn Ballet. His progeny are proving sound, competitive and adaptable

Foaled in 2015 and campaigned by Arrowfield Stud and Hermitage Thoroughbreds, The Autumn Sun dazzled on the track with a record of nine starts, eight wins, and five Group 1 titles. His versatility and consistency also earned him the title of Australian Champion 3YO Colt.

Across his five seasons at stud, The Autumn Sun already has 460 live foals and has served more than 100 mares each season. Despite missing the 2024 breeding season due to injury, he has returned in 2025 at a $66,000 service fee, and demand has remained stable with confident breeders.
