You will work closely with our stud manager and will be provided on the job mentoring and training, assisting you to gain new skills along the way.
• Undertaking general farm and stable duties including feeding and checking of horses, cleaning stables and yards
• Assisting the Stud Manager with day-to-day general farm duties
• Assisting vets and farriers
• Education of young horses, weanling and yearling preparation for major sales
• Pre and post-natal care of broodmares and foals – including foaling down
• Prior stud experience working with thoroughbreds
• Willingness to learn and a keen interest in all aspects of stud work; care for broodmares, foals, weanlings, yearlings and racehorse spellers.
• The ability to work in a small team environment and to work unsupervised

You will work under the guidance of our experienced Stallion Manager and be involved in the daily care and handling of stallions, assisting with covers, and maintaining high standards of welfare and presentation. You will also be involved in the many other facets of a busy thoroughbred stud farm.

Watershed Farm & Bowness Stud are looking for highly capable and confident horse handlers to join our team at a busy farm located near Young, NSW. This role is for people with extensive, hands-on experience handling young, unbroken horses — particularly those with a background in the breeding, racing or performance industry.
The role includes:
Assisting with the upcoming breeding season - foaling, vet work, care of broodmares and foals;
Educating and handling well-bred, unbroken weanlings and yearlings
Leading, grooming, and preparing horses for sales and inspections
General horse care, feeding, maintenance and farm duties
You must have:
Strong horse handling experience – especially with young or green horses
The ability to work safely, calmly, and confidently around valuable livestock
A proactive, hardworking attitude and willingness to help across all areas of the farm
Good communication, honesty and teamwork skills
Details:
Minimum commitment: 4+ months – please only apply if you can stay for this period or longer

Attractive pay with overtime
