Zoustar standing at Widden Stud

END OF SEASON WRAP

The end of July signifies the end of another racing season, where we celebrate the year that was and prepare for the start of the breeding season.

With 198 winners and progeny season earnings of $26.3 million, Widden Stud’s Zoustar earned his first Champion Australian General Sire title in the 2024/25 season.

In second was Yarraman Park Stud’s I Am Invincible with $22.758 million in earnings, just nudging out Coolmore Stud’s Pride Of Dubai, who finished third with $22.73 million. Snitzel and Written Tycoon rounded out the top five.

NSW-based sires also dominated the other 2024/2025 Sires Tables.

The season’s Top 5 Broomare Sires are retired or no longer with us, but they are still leaving their marks on our breeding ranks – Fastnet Rock, Redoute’s Choice, Snitzel, Encosta De Lago, More Than Ready.

Darley’s Too Darn Hot finished third on the 3YO Sires List, behind Victorian-based Written Tycoon and the deceased Snitzel; however, he took the crown as Australian Second Season Sire, with Arrowfield Stud’s Castelvecchio in third.

With 21 wins from 17 winners, Snitzel added another title to his name as Top 2YO Sire. The other NSW sires in the Top 5 were Ole Kirk, I Am Invincible, Wootton Bassett, and Too Darn Hot.

With four stakeswinners, including O’Ole, Vinery Stud’s Ole Kirk finished the 2024/25 season as Champion Australian First Season Sire on earnings, followed by Coolmore’s Wootton Basset and Kia Ora’s Farnan in third (who was first on winners).

Wishing all our breeders a great upcoming season!
