Hammer Falls on $67m Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale

The 2026 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale concluded on the Gold Coast with 308 lots sold for a combined gross of $67m, an 81 per cent clearance rate and a median price of $105,000 – up on last year’s $90,000.

NSW vendors dominated proceedings, with four of the five leading vendors by gross being NSW-based operations. Newgate Consignment led all vendors, selling 44 lots for $18.27m, while Yarraman Park Stud ($7.61m, 20 sold), Newington Farm ($5.83m, 39 sold) and Vinery Stud ($4.99m, 16 sold) also featured.

Presented by Attunga Stud, the Sale’s top lot was NZ’s multiple G1-winning Legarto, purchased by the Devil Night Syndicate for $2.8m. The syndicate plans to send her to Segenhoe Stud, which Yulong recently acquired as it expands into NSW.

Yarraman Park handled two of the overall top lots. G1 sprinter Stretan Angel was knocked down to Arrowfield Stud for $1.6m –  a full-circle result for the mare, who had been purchased for $64k at the 2022 National Yearling Sale before earning over $1.3m on the track. Yarraman also consigned Lilac, which sold to Japanese buyer Katsumi Yoshida for $1.5m. Yoshida also purchased O’Ole for the same price via Attunga Stud, finishing as the sale’s second-leading buyer.

On Day Two, Newgate’s Miss Hellfire, in foal to Extreme Choice, topped proceedings at $2.05m to China-based buyer Sheng Geng, who finished as the sale’s leading buyer overall with eight lots for $7.28m. Widden Stud teamed with David Redvers Bloodstock to secure G1 winner Startantes for $1.4m, with the mare set to return to the Widden Valley in foal to Anamoe.

Arrowfield’s John Messara was among the buyers expressing confidence in the market’s depth at the top end, a sentiment echoed by Magic Millions Managing Director Barry Bowditch, who noted results had exceeded expectations given the catalogue on offer.
