Stallion of the Month: Hellbent

Few stallions have built momentum as quickly as Hellbent, whose recent results continue to underline his emergence as a reliable source of high-class performers.

A son of I Am Invincible, Hellbent (ex Volkaspray) was a $95,000 Inglis Classic purchase who developed into a dual Group 1 winner. That durability has translated to his progeny, with his stock typically improving with racing and maturity.

Standing alongside his sire at Yarraman Park, Hellbent has climbed steadily through the sire ranks. He finished 12th on the Australian General Sires’ List in 2023–24 with just his third crop, followed by 14th last season with 126 winners. He is now enjoying a career-best season, currently sitting eighth by earnings, with 83 winners and over $10.7 million in prizemoney.

His results have been both consistent and diverse. Dual Group 1 winners Magic Time and Benedetta headline his record, alongside Golden Gift winner Revengeance and Group-winning juvenile Zip Lock. Other key performers include multiple Group winner Savvy Hallie and Group 1-placed Fully Lit and Vivy Air. Internationally, Invincible Ibis recently claimed the HK$26 million Hong Kong Derby for expat trainer Mark Newnham.

Hellbent’s current stakes performers-to-runners ratio of approximately 9% reflects depth across his books. His stakes winners have come from relatively accessible yearling price points, averaging $124,000.

With Benedetta set to headline the Inglis Chairman’s Sale in May, and his broader results trending upward, Hellbent’s profile continues to strengthen. At a service fee of $38,500, he remains a competitive option for breeders seeking proven performance with upside.
