A stakes-winning two-year-old and three-year-old by champion sire Snitzel, Sandbar stands at Kooringal Stud.
Out of the Group 3-winning daughter of Street Cry, Tallow, Sandbar is also a three-quarter brother to Farnan – the 2019-20 Australian Champion 2YO and Leading First Season Sire in his freshman year.
Trained by Brad Widdup, Sandbar raced 21 times for four wins, three seconds and more than $525,000 in prizemoney. Winning on debut at Canterbury, he followed that up with victory in the Listed Lonhro Plate, where he beat Satin Slipper and Oxford Tycoon. In the same prep, he was also runner-up to Written By in the G3 Pago Pago.
He kicked off his three-year-old campaign winning the Listed Rosebud, and ran second in the G2 Roman Consul behind Sesar. He added another win at four. He ran his last three career starts under David Vandyke before being retired to stud.
Sandbar has had 32 starters across his first two crops. His winners include three-time winner Shaggy, G2-placed Dusty Bay, and G3-placed Bar Jester. Sky Watcher, Sablonneuse and Barsandbi were also among his first-crop juveniles.
