Yulong Stud’s newly acquired property in NSW, Segenhoe, is seeking a skilled and experienced Assistant Broodmare Manager to support the care and management of our elite broodmare band. Working alongside the Broodmare manager and reporting to the Stud Manager, this full-time role offers the opportunity to step into a leadership position within one of Australia’s leading thoroughbred Studs. You will play a key role in assisting with the day-to-day operations, staff supervision, and ensuring the highest standards of horse care, especially during the busy breeding and foaling seasons. • Assist with the daily management of farm operations, care of broodmares, foals and weanlings.
• Monitoring mares and foals’ general health and wellbeing in collaboration with staff.
• Effectively assist with the management of foal's injuries, illness and limb deformities.
• Plan and coordinate staff and horses for Veterinary work, farrier, branding, handling and dentist work.
• Oversee the administration of medications, vaccinations, bandages and drenches under the guidance of the veterinarians and management staff.
• Keep accurate records of all treatments, procedures, vetting, farrier work and movements.
• Induction and training of new staff members, if required.
• Uphold biosecurity, hygiene, and safety to high standards.
• Coordinate with other departments to ensure smooth daily operations and assist if required.
• Lead operations in the Broodmare Manager’s absence.
• Other ad hoc duties if required.
What We’re Looking For:
• Minimum of 2 years' experience in a professional thoroughbred breeding environment.
• Excellent Horsemanship skills
• Strong understanding of equine reproduction, mare and foal care.
• Excellent Communication, attention to detail and staff management skills.
• A clean Driver’s license and eligibility to work in Australia.

Applicant must have experience in horse training and educating young thoroughbreds, breeding duties and general farm duties. The salary will be above award- in the range of $75,000 to $82,000 per annum depending upon the skill set and level of responsibility. Applicant is responsible for thoroughbred and livestock daily care.
Duties will include:
- Overseeing daily care and supervision of horses
-Training and preparing young stock and mares for sale
-Education yearlings including teaching them to walk, stand and parade
-Monitoring mare ovulation and pregnancy
-Foaling mares and early education of foals
-Assisting Veterinarians with ultrasound/reproduction examination including assisting in birthing foals and administering medical treatments to foals Applicant is required to be a responsible and safe employee who has had experience with thoroughbred training, teamwork environment and general farm duties.
Essential Criteria:
- A Certificate III or equivalent international qualification a minimum of three years profession experience educating and training horses
-A minimum of two year's experience handling and working with and educating thoroughbred horses
-Knowledge and experience of horse training and handling methods specific to thoroughbreds, including mares and yearlings
-Proven ability to train and educate young horses
-The suitable applicant will require evidence of managing a small team during the season
-Oral and written communication skills are sufficient to provide information and advice to others and prepare reports
-Knowledge of safe operation of all equipment and use of personal protective equipment
-Sound knowledge of health and safety obligations and demonstrated skills in safe operating of equipment relevant to the training and preparation of horses.
