Riverstone Lodge is seeking a highly motivated and adaptive individual to join our growing team as a full-time Horse Trainer/Breeding Foreperson. Duties
• Training and educating young stock and yearlings
• Overseeing daily care and supervision of horses
• Preparing and educate young stock for sale and attending sales where required
• Manage people and performance under direction of the Manager
• Monitoring mare ovulation and pregnancy
• Monitoring and handling of mares imminently in foal
• Foaling, including pre- and post-natal care of broodmares and foals
• Assisting Veterinarians with ultrasound/reproduction examination and administering medical treatment to foals
• Undertake early education and training of foals
• Ensure a safe workplace
• Assist Veterinarians in attending to medical and health needs of horses as required
• Assist Veterinarians with ultrasound/reproduction examination including assisting in birthing foals and administering medical treatment to foals Essential Criteria
a. A Certificate III or equivalent international qualification, or in the absence of a qualification a minimum of three years professional experience educating and training horses
b. A minimum of two years’ experience handling and working with and educating thoroughbred horses
c. Knowledge and experience of horse training and handling methods specific to thoroughbreds, including mares and yearlings
d. Proven ability to train and educate young horses
e. The suitable applicant will require evidence of managing a team and breeding operation
f. Oral and written communication skills are sufficient to provide information and advice to others and prepare reports
g. Knowledge of safe operation of all equipment and use of personal protective equipment
h. Sound knowledge of health and safety obligations and demonstrated skills in safe operation of equipment relevant to the training and preparation of racehorses show more
