Luskin Park is seeking an experienced manager to oversee the day-to-day running of the farm.
An integral arm of Matthew C. Smith Racing, the farm is home to approximately 80 horses in various stages of preparation, ranging from long term agistment and rehabilitation, to pre-training and full work.
The successful applicant will work closely with Matthew and his wife Melissa, as well as the foreperson who manages the horses in pre-training and training.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to continue their career in thoroughbred farm management. You’ll be joining a close-knit team who are passionate about horses and who share the common goal of preparing elite equine athletes to perform at their best.
An excellent remuneration package is on offer including a newly renovated farm house suitable for a family.

• Staff management: you will be responsible for delegating duties and ensuring that these are completed to the necessary standard. This includes supporting staff who need extra assistance and fostering a safe, inclusive and enjoyable work environment for all. You will also be required to manage the recruitment and onboarding of new staff.
• Horse health and welfare: you’ll be responsible for the supervision and care of all horses on the property, including arranging vet, farrier and dentist as required.
• Assisting with the horses in pre-training/training: you will work closely with Matthew and the foreperson to ensure that each horse is progressing in the right direction in terms of their fitness and health. You will also provide the foreperson with support where needed. This may include helping to saddle up, accompanying horses to the track and/or barriers and helping treadmill horses.
• Equine logistics: you will be responsible for overseeing the arrival and departure of all horses, including liaising with the team at Warwick Farm and the MCS Racing truck drivers.
• Administering medications and treatments: you will be responsible for making sure horses are treated correctly and that accurate records are kept. You will need to be able to administer medications and be competent in bandaging and delivering basic equine first aid.
• Inventory and stores: you will be required to liaise with suppliers regarding feed, shavings and other necessary items for the farm.
• Race day representation: you may be required to accompany horses to the races and represent the stable. This includes helping to saddle up, looking after owners if present, and recording race-day communications. • A minimum of five years professional experience working in the thoroughbred industry.
• A minimum of three years management experience working in a team environment.
• Excellent horsemanship skills, specific to thoroughbred racing and breeding.
• Proficient verbal communication skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and strong organisational skills, with the ability to multitask and manage priorities effectively.
