The 2026 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale has concluded, delivering steady trade across Book 1 and 2, as well as improved figures on 2025 results.
With turnover of $68,594,000, up 14% year-on-year, the average of $157,590 was also up from $146,240 last year, while the median also lifted to $130,000 compared to $100,000 last year.
Demand was particularly strong through the middle of the market, with 283 yearlings selling for $100,000 or more, a 22% increase on 2025. The number of $200,000-plus and $300,000-plus lots also rose. The highest price realised was $850,000 (Lot 238 by Widden Stud’s Zoustar).
New South Wales was represented by 17 individual vendors, with Yarraman Park Stud, Newgate Farm, and Segenhoe Stud the Top 3 NSW vendors by aggregate. Bell River Thoroughbreds posted the highest average (three or more sold) at $301,250. On the buying side, Bjorn Baker Racing / Clarke Bloodstock (FBAA) was the highest NSW purchaser, spending a total of $990,000.
While a diversity of stallions were represented across both Books, Victoria’s Toronado (Swettenhan) topped the Leading Sires by aggregate, with NSW stallions Extreme Choice (Newgate) and Home Affairs (Coolmore) featuring in the Top 5.
The attention now turns to the Magic Millions Adelaide Sale on 19-20 March, before the Inglis Easter Sale on 29-30 March.
